The second panel session dedicated to “The Role of Media in Strengthening Social Cohesion and Intercultural Dialogue” was held at the Media Forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on “Building Trust Through Media in a Polarized World” in Baku, APA reports.
Speaking at the panel, Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, thanked the Government of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan’s CICA Chairmanship and the Secretariat for organizing the forum.
Kobuljon Akhmedov, Director of the Center for Mass Media Content Production under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, also thanked the organizers and his Azerbaijani colleagues.
He noted that under the leadership of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a policy of mutual and constructive dialogue, cooperation and openness to the outside world is being pursued. He said that as a result, Uzbekistan has further strengthened its cooperation with countries in the region based on the principles of mutual trust and respect.
Palestine’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Montasir Abuzeid said that mutual understanding and trust are of particular importance to Palestine. He emphasized that the media plays an important role in strengthening understanding and trust between states and peoples.
Dr. Zaid Mohammad Al-Nawaiseh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Government Communication of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, said that the main mission of the media is to inform all members of society. He noted that the role of the media increases further during crises and that it is important to communicate the truth clearly under such circumstances.
Salkyn Sarnogoeva, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, said that the media and social networks play an important role in strengthening trust between peoples.
She noted that alongside traditional media, social networks, bloggers and influencers also occupy an important place in the modern media ecosystem.
Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Information, emphasized the importance of exchanging views and experience among journalists.
He said that mechanisms for exchanges among journalists should be established and that the exchange of views and knowledge should become an integral part of journalistic activity.
