Russia plans to draft more than 120,000 conscripts this fall. This was announced by Yevgeny Burdinsky, head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, UA News reports.

According to him, the deployment of conscripts to their military service locations will begin on October 10. The fall draft itself will run from October 1 to December 31.

At the same time, the draft procedure in Russia has changed. Medical examinations, professional and psychological screening, as well as draft board meetings are now conducted year-round—from January 1 to December 31—rather than only during the spring and fall draft campaigns.

Yevgen Burdinsky assured that conscripts serving their mandatory military service will not be sent to participate in the war against Ukraine.

“I want to emphasize once again: military personnel serving under conscription will not be sent to carry out tasks as part of a special military operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, or anywhere else on Ukrainian territory,” Yevgeny Burdinsky stated.

At the same time, the representative of the Russian General Staff acknowledged that conscripts may join volunteer units. In addition, conscripts have the option to sign a contract with the Russian army and go to war against Ukraine.

“Today, many young men among the conscripts are entering military service under contract, including to participate in a special military operation,” emphasized Yevgeny Burdinsky.

ASTRA has repeatedly reported on cases of conscripts being coerced into signing contracts with the Russian army.

In particular, this concerned a military unit in Boguchar, where, according to ASTRA, conscripts were forced to switch to contract service. This, in turn, opens the possibility of them being deployed to participate in the war against Ukraine.

Thus, despite statements by the Russian General Staff that conscripts are not being sent directly to the war, once they sign a contract, they may become combatants.
