Azerbaijan has contributed to strengthening trust and cooperation within the CICA space during its chairmanship of the organization, Presidential Representative for Special Assignments Khalaf Khalafov said at the Media Forum titled “Building Trust Through Media in a Polarized World” in Baku, APA reports.

Khalafov said Azerbaijan, as a country that suffered from the grave consequences of military aggression, restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the norms and principles of international law and thereby ensured the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He noted that following the Second Karabakh War, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev proposed establishing lasting peace with Armenia and took practical steps to advance the peace process.

“The Joint Declaration signed in Washington on August 8, 2025, and the initialing of the peace agreement demonstrated that it is possible to build trust after a conflict that lasted for decades. It is very important that the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people properly assess this historic responsibility and take all necessary steps to establish peace on the basis of legal obligations,” Khalafov said.

“We highly appreciate CICA’s role as a reliable platform recognized across Asia, which promotes open dialogue based on the principles of sovereign equality of states, contributes to strengthening trust among countries and gives new impetus to the development of multilateral cooperation,” he added.

Khalafov said Azerbaijan, within the framework of its CICA chairmanship, has contributed to the organization’s institutional development, its transformation into an international organization, the expansion of sectoral cooperation, and the strengthening of trust and cooperation across the CICA space.
