The State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and global investment firm Brookfield have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic partnership to jointly explore investment opportunities in Azerbaijan, as well as across the Caucasus and Central Asia, APA-Economics reports.
The partnership will combine Brookfield’s global investment and operational expertise with SOFAZ’s deep regional knowledge and extensive institutional relationships.
Under the cooperation, the parties will explore promising investment opportunities across various sectors, particularly energy and private equity, while also seeking to expand access for global institutional investors to investment opportunities in the region.
The partnership is also expected to support the expansion of Brookfield’s presence and activities in Azerbaijan. At later stages, other international institutional investors may also be involved to enable investments on a broader scale.
“Rising energy demand, abundant resources and the emphasis on attracting global capital create significant and long-term investment opportunities for Azerbaijan and the broader region. We have built a strong relationship with SOFAZ over many years, and this partnership builds on that foundation. By combining our capabilities, we aim to identify high-quality investment opportunities and help attract additional institutional capital to the region,” Brookfield Asset Management CEO Connor Teskey said.
SOFAZ Executive Director Israfil Mammadov said the partnership reflects the fund’s approach to deepening cooperation with leading global investors and attracting long-term institutional capital to the region.
“Given Brookfield’s extensive investment and operational expertise, we see significant potential to jointly identify and develop investment opportunities that can contribute to the region’s sustainable economic development,” he said.
Brookfield is a global investment firm with more than $1 trillion in assets under management, investing in infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate and credit across more than 30 countries.
Established in 1999, SOFAZ is Azerbaijan’s sovereign wealth fund responsible for accumulating and managing the country’s oil and gas revenues. Its total assets currently exceed $72 billion.
