The Armenian Apostolic Church has been “occupied,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a briefing today, according to Armenian media, APA reports.
He noted that believers have been excluded from the leadership of the church.
“The Church is neither the Catholicos nor the bishop. The Church is the faithful people. But the faithful people have been excluded from the leadership of the Church,” Pashinyan emphasized.
He also proposed establishing an investigative commission concerning the church. According to Pashinyan, based on the results of the commission's work, relevant legislative initiatives should be adopted and the “occupation” of the church should be ended.
Pashinyan also said that the community should have a decisive influence on the selection of priests.
