Presidential representative: Media is among priorities of Azerbaijan’s CICA chairmanship agenda

Media is one of the priority areas on the agenda of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Presidential Representative for Special Assignments Khalaf Khalafov said at the Media Forum titled “Building Trust Through Media in a Polarized World” in Baku, APA reports.

“Today, amid conditions where media is being turned into a tool of disinformation, hate speech and aggressive policies, there is a great need for objective, responsible and professional media,” Khalafov said.

He noted that the forum on building trust through media is particularly relevant and important in terms of strengthening dialogue, mutual understanding and trust.

“The media sphere is one of the priority areas on the agenda of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship. The modern system of international relations is undergoing a period of profound transformation. Growing geopolitical tensions and violations of the fundamental principles of international law, including sovereignty and territorial integrity, are seriously testing the global security system,” he said.

Khalafov added that terrorism, separatism, extremism, cyber threats and disinformation, as well as risks related to food, energy, water and climate security, are becoming global threats.

“At the present stage, joint efforts aimed at strengthening mutual trust between states, peacefully resolving conflicts on the basis of international law and ending ongoing conflicts in different regions of the world serve goals of universal importance,” he said.
