Kairat Sarybay: Azerbaijan’s chairmanship has led to significant progress in CICA’s activities

Azerbaijan’s chairmanship has led to significant progress in the activities of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay said at the Media Forum titled “Building Trust Through Media in a Polarized World” in Baku, APA reports.

Sarybay said CICA, which brings together 28 member states, is an inclusive platform based on the principles of sovereign equality and consensus.

“The principles of sovereign equality and consensus enable countries with different national experiences to share their knowledge and expertise,” he said.

According to Sarybay, significant work has been carried out during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship to strengthen CICA’s activities and expand practical cooperation.

“Azerbaijan assumed the CICA chairmanship for 2024–2026 on December 17, 2024. The main theme of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship was defined as ‘Stronger CICA: Connectivity, Digitalization and Sustainable Growth in Asia’,” he said.

Sarybay noted that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship is aimed at strengthening CICA’s institutional capacity, ensuring more effective implementation of confidence-building measures and expanding cooperation with other international and regional platforms.

The Secretary General also said the activities of various advisory and cooperation platforms within CICA have developed during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship.

He particularly emphasized the importance of involving women, youth, representatives of science and education, business circles and other partners in cooperation within CICA.

Sarybay added that the CICA Summit to be held in Baku in 2026 will mark another important stage in the organization’s development.
