Azerbaijan can contribute to the development of the halal economy and play an important role in the formation of regional halal value chains, said Samer Elesawi, Head of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Center of Excellence based in Kuala Lumpur, during his speech at the Halal Forum held as part of the IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Baku, APA reports.

“Azerbaijan has significant opportunities for the development of the halal economy. Strengthening regional connectivity and promoting new trade routes provide the country with an opportunity to play a significant role in the development of halal value chains,”

Elesawi stated that for the sustainable development of the global halal economy, expanding trade alone is not sufficient; strong value chains, specialized institutions, investment mechanisms and knowledge sharing are also of great importance.

He noted in his speech that the halal sector has already become a rapidly growing global economic ecosystem and consumer demand around the world continues to increase. According to Elesawi, this development creates new trade and investment opportunities while also requiring stronger cooperation among countries.

Samer Elesawi emphasized that the halal economy is not only a matter of trade and certification, but also an important tool for promoting food security, sustainable development, innovation and social welfare.

According to the IsDB official, the future success of the halal sector will depend on joint efforts by governments, businesses and international organizations, as well as the implementation of innovative approaches.
