WHO comments on possible pneumonia threat in Irkutsk

The World Health Organization sees no threat related to cases of community-acquired pneumonia in Irkutsk, APA reports, citing Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor).

It was reported that the situation in the Irkutsk region and the cities of Irkutsk and Shelekhov is stable. More than 90% of people who had been in contact have completed medical observation, and no signs of infectious disease were detected among them.

According to the information, medical workers conducted about 5,000 tests, and no dangerous pathogens were detected. Inspections carried out at the institute also found no violations of biological safety rules.

Rospotrebnadzor stressed that the necessary preventive measures have been taken and that there is no epidemiological threat to the population.
