On October 7, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov attended and addressed a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone as part of his working visit to Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
In his speech, the minister emphasized that, against the backdrop of growing global tensions, adherence to the fundamental norms and principles of international law is of particular importance, and that cooperation between countries based on mutual respect and interests is an important factor for regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
The speech noted the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS and the 20th anniversary of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, emphasizing the role of the Commonwealth as a platform for equal dialogue and multilateral cooperation. Speaking about the important place of humanitarian cooperation on the agenda, the minister highlighted the significance of the Priority Action Plan for 2027-2028, which includes more than two hundred events. At the same time, it was noted that the 3rd CIS Games held in Azerbaijan and the events implemented in the city of Lachin within the framework of the "CIS Cultural Capital 2025" initiative made an important contribution to cooperation in the fields of culture, youth, and sports across the Commonwealth.
It was stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing interaction with CIS countries in the areas of trade, economy, and transport. Attention was drawn to the positive dynamics of trade turnover, as well as the consistent development of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, port and railway infrastructure as a result of Azerbaijan's favorable geographical position and large-scale investments in infrastructure. It was stated that these steps would help fully realize the region's transit and economic potential.
In conclusion, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov once again reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to the principles of good-neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation with all CIS states. Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov was wished success within the framework of his country's upcoming chairmanship of the CIS, and it was emphasized that the Azerbaijani side is ready to provide the necessary support in addressing the tasks ahead.
As part of the event, views were also exchanged on a number of multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, and several draft decisions to be adopted by heads of state and government were reviewed.
