Tens of thousands of people went missing during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Minister for Human Rights and Refugees Sevlid Hurtić, stated during a panel session at the 4th International Conference held within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons, APA reports.
He said that both Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have faced this problem.
The minister emphasized the importance of archives being open and accessible: “Information that could help a family should not remain ‘captive’ in the archives of any institution or under the influence of any political interest. Every document, every record, every map and every piece of information that could help a family find its missing member should be accessible to institutions engaged in the search for missing persons.”
According to Sevlid Hurtić, institutions should cooperate, information should be exchanged, information systems should be interconnected, and states should be ready to create opportunities for cooperation.
