A water area located in the section of the Caspian Sea (Lake) belonging to the Republic of Azerbaijan has been designated as a renewable energy zone, APA reports.
Prime Minister Ali Asadov signed a corresponding decision.
According to the decision, a water area covering a total of 711.4 square kilometers in the section of the Caspian Sea (Lake) belonging to the Republic of Azerbaijan has been designated as a renewable energy zone for the construction of offshore wind power plants in order to ensure more efficient use of renewable energy sources in electricity generation. A land management map indicating the location, dimensions and boundaries of the water area is attached to the decision.
The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall carry out the selection of an electricity producer for the renewable energy zone designated by this decision in accordance with the Rules for Selecting an Electricity Producer in a Renewable Energy Zone, approved by Presidential Decree No. 2285 dated August 2, 2023.
From the date this decision enters into force, permission for the construction of offshore wind power plants within the designated 711.4-square-kilometer renewable energy zone for electricity generation shall be obtained in accordance with the Urban Planning and Construction Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the period stipulated by Article 6.7 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan On the Use of Renewable Energy Sources in Electricity Generation.
The State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall notify the Cabinet of Ministers within three days either from the date construction permission is granted or, if such permission is not issued within the prescribed period, from the date that period expires.
Oversight of the implementation of this decision has been assigned to the Agrarian and Ecology Department of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
