Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan is going to launch the 300MWe multi-fuelled power plant in Sangachal in October.
Wartsila Corporation was in December 2006, awarded a contract by Azerenergy, to deliver a multi-fuelled generating plant for a 300MWe power plant to be located at Sangachal, 50 km south of the capital Baku. Three generating sets of 16.6MW each are being tested in the plant.
The plant will be equipped with 18 generating sets each powered by an 18-cylinder Wartsila 50DF engine, delivering 16.6 MW. Wartsila also deliveredthe power plant design, other principal equipment and all building materials, while undertaking supervision of the building and equipment installation.
The plant will be tied-in with the national grid next month after test is successful.
The Wartsila 50DF engines give the plant considerable fuel flexibility.
Marlen Asgarov, Vice-President of Azereneji, said the engines can run on heavy and light oil and natural gas. Shifting from one fuel to another takes 30 minutes. The engines will deliver the same power on all three fuels.
AzerEnerji has to date commissioned five power plants with a combined output of 450 MWe, all based on multiple Wärtsilä generating sets.
The construction of a 104MWe power plant in Guba, 165 km northwest of the capital Baku, has continued to progress.
