The Azerbaijani embassy in Sweden told APA that some media outlets in Azerbaijan have, with reference to Swedish media, recently published articles allegedly expressing the position of Stefan Lindberg on the Baku-2015 first European Games as well as human rights in Azerbaijan.
An article of similar content was published by Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” on February 17. After this article, Azerbaijani ambassador to Sweden Adish Mammadov tried to meet with Stefan Lindberg and the meeting was scheduled for May 12. Lindberg then appealed to the Azerbaijani embassy in Sweden, asking to hold the meeting on May 13. He said media reports on alleged position of the Swedish National Olympic Committee are groundless and don’t reflect the reality, adding that he is ready to clarify this issue with the ambassador.
According to information obtained by APA, the Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan also appealed to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, noting that media reports recently disseminated in the name of the Swedish NOC president are false.
