The ceremony was attended by a delegation led by Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports and Chief Executive Director of the Operating Committee of the European Games, Mark Tarabella, Head of the Intersport group, the European Parliament’s committee for sports affairs, members of other political parties, representatives of European institutes, media outlets, as well as the diplomatic corps accredited in Brussels.
In a reporting speech at the event, Azad Rahimov spoke about preparatory processes for the Baku-2015 first European Games, works carried out and the importance of the fact that Azerbaijan will be the first country to host the Games, adding that Azerbaijan is proud of being the first country to host such a major sports event.
Chris Kendall, a representative of the European External Action Service, spoke about relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, noting that it is going to be a fine experience for Azerbaijan to be the first host country for the first European Games.
The event then proceeded with discussions. Azad Rahimov and other rapporteurs answered questions about the fact that Azerbaijan will host the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games following the Baku-2015 first European Games, actions the host country is planning to take for better enlightenment of Europeans, this prestigious sports event’s possible contributions to the Azerbaijani society and other issues.
A video clip about the European Games was played at the event. The multifunctional and modern sports infrastructure created in Azerbaijan drew great interest from the event participants.
