Azerbaijani President: "As a developing country Azerbaijan has also gained great achievements in sports"

â€œExcellent conditions are created for all athletes participating in the competitions. We have a great sports infrastructure, Olympic Complexes. At the same time Baku is growing prettier and improving, the number of visitors is increasing. I am very glad that the number of athletes among them is growing every year", - the Head of State said.

According to him, Azerbaijan is successfully pursuing government policy towards the development of sports. â€œThanks to state policy today we can introduce Azerbaijan to the world community as a state of sports. All the sports organizations, agencies responsible for the development of sports, are functioning under a unique policyâ€, - Ilham Aliyev said.

â€œAzerbaijan is one of a few countries where there is no misunderstanding between the Ministry of Sports, Olympic Committee, sports federations and societies. On the contrary, there is maximum mutual understanding and support in this common activity. As a developing country Azerbaijan has gained great achievements in sportsâ€, - the President said.

Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the first Olympic sports complex was built by the National Olympic Committee in Baku in 2000. â€œAfter that, 35 regional Olympic complexes have been built and opened in Azerbaijan, and eight complexes are under construction. In the near future there will be modern Olympic Sports Centers meeting the highest standards in all cities of Azerbaijan. At the Olympic Games held in London, the Azerbaijani team won 10 medals, including - 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze. Azerbaijan ranked the 30th at Summer Olympic Games in London. This is really a great and historic achievementâ€.

Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is known as a dynamically developing, modern, young country in the world. "The entire international business community is aware of our economic achievements. The economic growth observed in Azerbaijan has no analogue in the world. The triple - 300 percent growth in the economy in 8-9 years is really a rare figure in the world. In all other areas - political reforms, social protection, the use of information and communication technologies in Azerbaijan - in all these areas, we are holding the leading places."

President noted that Azerbaijanâ€™s achievement in the area of telecommunications serves as an example for the region. Azerbaijan is a regional leader in this field. A number of other countries do not have the Internet freedom that exists in Azerbaijan.

"As president of the National Olympic Committee and President of the country, I really want going in for sports to be popularized in Azerbaijan. Popularization is growing, but still is not at the desired level. Every citizen, every young person must go in for sports. Because sport means, above all, health, healthy lifestyle", - Ilham Aliyev said.

President noted that as in all other fields, the environmental situation, fresh air, quality food, clean drinking water - all these issues, including sports are being resolved in Azerbaijan.

President emphasized that a new Olympic Stadium is under construction in Baku. This 70 000-seat stadium will be the largest and most modern Olympic stadium in the region. Currently, a large Gym Palace is under construction. The construction of a new modern Palace of water sports has been started recently. At the same time Baku Crystal Hall has been built this year. Stadiums, sports facilities are being built in the regions. "Our work in this area will be continued, and we will create such a sports infrastructure in Baku so that it can host any international competition. This is precisely our goal. I hope that we will also achieve the goals in this directionâ€, - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
