Kazim Babayev, public relations officer of Azersun Holding, told a press conference on the presentation of the project, that paper recycling is widely used in Europe because of eco-friendly particularities.
“We have undertaken a corporate pilot project so-called Green Receptacle which will allow us to collect used papers for recycling,” he added.
Mehman Mammadov, business development and investment officer of Azersun Holding, added that the recycling plant project is a new notion for Azerbaijan.
“We have prepared and signed all paperwork for the €30 million project that envisions constructing a plant that will be capable of recycling and reproducing 150 tons of paper a day or 50 000 tons a year. As we estimate, €19 million to €20 million will go to the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment and the rest will be used for construction and infrastructure. The project is believed to cover the costs in 4-5 years after launched. Azersun will finance the project but we will also borrow from foreign financial institutions. Negotiations with Islamic Development Bank are under way. The plant is slated for operation in the fourth quarter of 2009. This plant will employ 1 150 people, including 900 people for wastepaper collection. We will open 30 waste paper collection stations. Also, the plant will have a deinking workshop,” he added.
He added that the factory will fully meet the domestic demand of 42 000 tons per year and export products to Georgia, Turkmenistan and other countries.
The eco-friendly plant will be based in Sumgait, the mostly industrialized city of the country.
Azersun Holding Group has been in operation in Azerbaijan since 1991.
