Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to deliver humanitarian aid to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Chairman Pirhuseyn Kulivand said in an interview with APA’s Tehran correspondent.
He noted that other countries are currently sending humanitarian assistance to Iran via Azerbaijan through the Astara border crossing.
“This is very valuable for us. We thank you for all this assistance,” he added.
Pirhuseyn Kulivand stated that many countries have expressed readiness to send humanitarian aid to Iran.
“We have sent them a list of the items we need. Many individuals wanted to provide financial assistance, but due to sanctions against Iran, they were unable to do so. To solve this problem, we used cryptocurrency,” the chairman of the Red Crescent Society said.
According to him, more than 60,000 non-military facilities have been targeted in Iran so far.
“In Tehran alone, more than 24,000 non-military and residential facilities have been damaged. Approximately 18,790 commercial sites and 266 medical centers have been affected. These include hospitals, polyclinics, healthcare centers, pharmacies, and other medical institutions. In recent attacks, 490 schools have also been directly or indirectly damaged,” he noted.
Kulivand added that the property of the Red Crescent Society has also been damaged in the latest attacks.
“These include 3 helicopters, 45 rescue and aid vehicles, and 42 ambulances. So far, there has been 1 martyr and 10 injured among members of the Iranian Red Crescent Society,” he said.
He also noted that during the recent war, 12 medical workers were killed while performing their duties in Iran, and more than 90 others were injured.
