A new electricity connection is planned to be established between Azerbaijan and Türkiye via the Zangezur Corridor, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said during his speech at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that digitalization, artificial intelligence, the development of data centers and the expansion of electrification are creating new requirements for energy systems. This requires not only new generation capacities, but also stronger grids, energy storage systems and new electricity connections linking countries.
According to the minister, it is planned to expand the energy connections that Azerbaijan and Türkiye have created between East and West through oil and gas projects with electricity and green energy corridors. The goal is to deliver the “green energy” of the Caspian and Central Asia to Europe through Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Parviz Shahbazov stated that connecting Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan’s unified electricity system via the Zangezur Corridor is also part of this approach. “Energy infrastructure has been created in Jabrayil in this direction. At the next stage, it is planned to establish an electricity connection with Nakhchivan and Türkiye via the Zangezur Corridor. Thus, we are talking about a new electricity line between Azerbaijan and Türkiye,” the minister said.
He added that the project will also make it possible to interconnect the energy systems of the Turkic states located on both shores of the Caspian Sea.
