A bilateral meeting has been held in Baku between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar within the framework of the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, the Ministry of Energy told APA.

During the meeting, it was noted that the elevation of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye strategic partnership, based on common history, national roots and brotherhood, to the level of an alliance in recent years has also brought new substance to energy cooperation. The important role of joint energy projects in ensuring the energy security of the two countries and the region was emphasized.

The current state of issues on the bilateral and regional energy agenda was reviewed. The Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum was assessed as an important platform that continuously develops the energy partnership and enriches it with new areas of cooperation.

It was stated that amid changes taking place in the global energy architecture and the acceleration of electrification, growing energy demand is increasing the strategic importance of electricity interconnections. In this context, the development of Azerbaijan-Türkiye electricity interconnections and green energy corridors through Nakhchivan and Georgia, as well as opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the “Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor” project, were discussed.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on Azerbaijan-Türkiye cooperation in connection with Türkiye’s hosting of COP31 in November this year. Events planned as part of COP31’s “Energy and Transport Day,” as well as opportunities to continue the energy initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan during its COP29 Presidency, were reviewed. It was emphasized that joint projects on electricity interconnections and green energy corridors are aligned with COP31’s clean energy transition and electrification priorities. It was stated that Azerbaijan is ready to support brotherly Türkiye, which will host COP31, by sharing the experience it gained during its COP29 Presidency.
