SOCAR and Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) are discussing the implementation of new joint oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as in third countries, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, said in his speech on the outcomes of the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, cooperation between SOCAR and TPAO in the field of exploration and production is planned to be expanded.
“We want our cooperation, which began last year at Shafag-Asiman, to continue with Karabakh, God willing. We are discussing with SOCAR exploration projects that we can jointly implement in Türkiye, Azerbaijan and third countries, and we will put forward concrete projects in this direction,” Alparslan Bayraktar said.
He added that last year TPAO joined the project for the joint exploration and development of the Shafag-Asiman prospective structure in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea with a 30% participating interest.
The minister also said that maximizing the use of existing oil and gas infrastructure is a priority. According to him, the sides are also discussing possibilities for bringing the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline to its design capacity of 1 million barrels per day.
