Azerbaijan and Türkiye do not limit their energy cooperation to oil and natural gas and are also expanding their work toward closer integration of their electricity systems, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said during his speech at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
The minister noted that Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations go beyond ordinary neighborly relations or commercial partnership: “Our bond is based on unshakable brotherhood, mutual trust and shared successes rooted in history. We see this forum not only as an event bringing together the energy sectors of the two countries, but also as a strategic platform where we shape our common future based on the principle of ‘one nation, two states’.”
Bayraktar stated that cooperation between the two countries covers a broad spectrum, ranging from natural gas and oil to mining, renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity markets, transmission and distribution.
According to him, the global energy sector is going through an important transformation phase, and the energy system is becoming increasingly electricity-centered.
“The issue is no longer only the production of energy. The main issue is delivering the energy produced to consumers in a safe, sustainable, fast and efficient manner,” the minister emphasized.
Bayraktar added that strong and interconnected electricity systems strengthen security of supply, facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the system and create new opportunities for energy trade between countries.
The minister stated that Türkiye considers interconnectors not merely as technical lines connecting two electricity systems, but as strategic tools that bring countries’ energy systems even closer together.
