Türkiye’s pipeline operator BOTAŞ and SOCAR are working to extend the terms of some existing agreements on natural gas trade, BOTAŞ Director General Abdulvahit Fidan said during his speech at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that energy cooperation is one of the important areas of the strategic partnership between Türkiye and Azerbaijan. According to him, the projects implemented and agreements signed by BOTAŞ with SOCAR contribute not only to energy cooperation between the two countries but also to the security of energy supply of neighboring countries and Europe.
Abdulvahit Fidan cited the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Shah Deniz-1, Shah Deniz-2 and TANAP projects as key examples of energy cooperation between the two countries.
He said that cooperation in the natural gas sector has also accelerated in recent years. Thus, the gas pipeline implemented to ensure the security of Nakhchivan’s energy supply and commissioned in March 2025, as well as the launch of natural gas supplies to Syria in August 2025 through cooperation between BOTAŞ and SOCAR, have become new areas of this cooperation.
In addition, Abdulvahit Fidan noted that a contract for the long-term purchase of natural gas to be produced from the Absheron field was signed several months ago.
“As our cooperation is multifaceted and dynamic, our agenda is also broad. We are also continuing our work to extend the terms of some existing agreements on natural gas trade between BOTAŞ and SOCAR,” Abdulvahit Fidan emphasized.
He added that the goal for the coming period is to further develop the Türkiye-Azerbaijan partnership in the energy sector, particularly in natural gas.
