Birth rate among Azerbaijanis in Georgia declines

In the first half of this year, natural population growth in Georgia’s Kvemo Kartli region, where Azerbaijanis live compactly, amounted to 223 people, the National Statistics Office of Georgia said, APA’s local bureau reports.

Compared with the same period last year, natural population growth increased by 4 people, or 1.83%.

A decline in the birth rate among our compatriots has been observed over the past three years. In the first half of this year, 1,982 births were registered in Kvemo Kartli, which is 19 fewer than in the same period of 2025 and 192 fewer than in the same period of 2024.

The number of marriages in the region amounted to 1,302, while the number of divorces stood at 674.

During the reporting period, natural population growth across Georgia as a whole declined to negative 4,715 people. Positive natural population growth was recorded in Tbilisi (424 people) and Adjara (330 people). Across the neighboring country, the number of marriages stood at 10,006, while the number of divorces amounted to 6,095.
