Preliminary work on the project to establish an electricity interconnection between Azerbaijan and Türkiye via Nakhchivan has been completed, and the most suitable technical option has been identified, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said during his speech at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
The minister noted that Türkiye is closely following work on developing electricity interconnections between the two countries, particularly through Nakhchivan.
“The completion of preliminary work within the Türkiye-Azerbaijan interconnection project and the identification of the most feasible option as a result of technical assessments by our relevant institutions show that an important stage of the project has been completed,” Bayraktar said.
According to him, once the additional technical work being carried out by the system operators is also completed, a strong foundation will be established for the project to move to the implementation stage.
Bayraktar added that this interconnection will not only increase the reliability of electricity supply but will also elevate energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye to a more strategic level.
