“We are receiving positive signals from our partners in the European Union and other partners that they are ready to support our efforts toward the restoration and reconstruction of Karabakh. This will create new connectivity opportunities not only for our region but also for the broader Eurasian continent. New opportunities will emerge for the East-West Corridor and the Middle Corridor. This will change the overall landscape of our region and will also ensure Armenia’s integration into regional development processes,” Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said in his address to members of the diplomatic corps visiting the Cultural Center in the city of Khankendi, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Karabakh reports.

He said that the restoration work and developments have taken place in just six years and have required tremendous efforts by the Azerbaijani government and the Azerbaijani people:

“You can witness our full commitment to this process. This is not an easy task. We did not start from zero; we started from minus five. This territory is still suffering from mine contamination. This is an enormous challenge facing us. Just yesterday, another mine incident occurred. While we were on our way to Khankendi, we received information about another mine incident, as a result of which a civilian was injured.

Mines hinder our reconstruction and restoration efforts, but they cannot undermine our determination and will to carry out restoration and reconstruction work as soon as possible and ensure the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons.”

According to the presidential aide, construction work is underway in cities and settlements along the road to Karabakh: “Overall, around 100,000 civilians work, live and study in Karabakh. This is the unique experience Azerbaijan has gained in post-conflict restoration and reconstruction. We believe that Azerbaijan’s experience can also be applied in other regions of the world that have suffered from conflicts and wars.”
