Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Energy Minister Kamal Abbasov at the 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic, APA-Economic reports.
During the speech, the importance of energy security, sustainability, the implementation of clean energy technologies, and the strengthening of international cooperation was emphasized against the backdrop of changes taking place in the global energy system. It was noted that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing relations with the SCO as a Dialogue Partner. It was stated that Azerbaijan contributes to strengthening regional energy connectivity as a reliable energy partner and an important transit hub. In this context, particular attention was drawn to the creation of 8 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, as well as the implementation of various green energy corridors and interconnector projects.
The strategic importance of the “Central Asia–Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor” project was emphasized, and support was expressed for the Kyrgyz Republic’s accession to this initiative. It was noted that the project will strengthen energy connectivity between Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Türkiye and China, and create additional opportunities for electricity transmission along the Middle Corridor connecting Europe and Asia.
It was also stressed that Azerbaijan is ready to continue contributing to constructive dialogue and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the SCO platform.
