Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. “Azerbaijan has very active position in UNESCO. There is no such field of activity of the organization that Azerbaijan doesn’t join it actively”, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova told APA during her visit to Azerbaijan. She said she saw dynamics, optimism and not only economic, but also social development in Azerbaijan. “In the meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, we discussed bilateral relations and ideas to be realized in the future. Azerbaijan has a unique place in dialogue and rapprochement between the cultures”.

Bokova reminded that recently Azerbaijan was a member of the UNESCO Executive Committee, but now it joins the UNESCO world heritage committee. She said UNESCO had a willingness to send fact-finding mission to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan to investigate conditions of historic-cultural monuments and museums there, but it could be realized only with the consent of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The guest said the UNESCO world heritage committee would discuss the Azerbaijani government’s proposal to include Azerbaijani carpet in the UNESCO non-material heritage list in November. “I hope Azerbaijani carpet will be included in this list because experts have very positive opinion about the proposal of your government”.
