The Patriotic War lasted 44 days, during which Azerbaijan liberated more than 300 cities and villages on the battlefield, President Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Baku, APA reports.
The head of state stated that in September 2023, the iron fist of the Azerbaijani soldier once again had its say: "In less than 24 hours, Armenia's occupying army in Karabakh was completely crushed, while the leaders of the separatists and child killers were brought before an Azerbaijani court. Those who threatened to come on tanks and occupy Baku are now drinking Azerbaijani tea in Azerbaijani prisons, while their tanks are on display at the Military Trophy Park. This issue is of global importance, which is why I have dwelt on it. If sanctions had been imposed on Armenia in a timely manner for occupation, genocide and ethnic cleansing, Azerbaijan would not have been forced to break the back of Armenian fascism on the battlefield. War was not our choice; Armenia forced us into war. Their patrons, who stood behind them, apparently did not think that Azerbaijan would restore its sovereignty and international law by force. But they were all mistaken. They probably did not know well the character of our proud, freedom-loving people, who live by their traditions and moral values."
