Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on October 15 with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan is hosting the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) at a high level and successfully chairing the organization.
At the meeting, it was noted that relations between the two countries are consistently expanding in all areas on the basis of sincere friendship, constructive dialogue, mutual trust and support, and have the character of a strategic partnership. The sides particularly emphasized the role of friendly relations between the heads of state, high-level reciprocal visits and meetings in bringing bilateral ties to their current high level. It was also stated that the two countries successfully cooperate within international organizations and provide mutual support on a number of issues on international platforms.
During the conversation, satisfaction was expressed with the high level of development of interparliamentary relations, in line with the current level of relations between the two countries.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova recalled her official visit to Belarus in June 2024 and the meetings held during that visit, as well as the visits to Azerbaijan by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko. She stated that all these visits and meetings at the level of parliamentary leaders are a successful indicator of the current level of relations between the legislative bodies.
It was noted that the friendship groups operating in the parliaments of both countries maintain regular contacts, while members of parliament from both sides participate in events organized in Azerbaijan and Belarus.
The successful cooperation between the legislative bodies within international organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly was also highlighted, and the importance of continuing activities in this direction was emphasized.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
