Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani called for ensuring the safety of maritime and air navigation during the plenary session of the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), APA reports.
The minister stated that ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is of great importance for protecting global supply chains, energy security and food security.
Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani condemned the Houthi attacks on airports in Riyadh, Abha, Jazan and Najran in Saudi Arabia. Describing the civilian deaths resulting from these attacks as a gross violation of international law and the Chicago Convention, the minister emphasized Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
The Bahraini Foreign Minister also noted the importance of adopting an international treaty on the governance of artificial intelligence. He stated that the aim of the initiative is not to hinder innovation but to protect it.
The minister called for ensuring safe and unhindered navigation at sea and in the air, as well as the exercise of the right of transit passage in accordance with international law, without unlawful restrictions or fees.
He noted Azerbaijan's role in coordinating confidence-building measures for the development of safe and efficient transport corridors and proposed expanding the initiative to also cover the safety of maritime and air navigation.
Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani also emphasized the importance of a just resolution of the Palestinian issue and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine alongside Israel to ensure lasting peace in the region.
The minister stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain remains committed to international rules and laws governing maritime, air and economic connectivity, noting that Asia's shared prosperity must be built on security and peace.
