A legal assistance request received from the Republic of Montenegro has been executed by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
According to the information, the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office executed, through EUROJUST, a legal assistance request received from the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro concerning a particularly serious crime.
The request was submitted within the framework of criminal proceedings into a case of intentional murder committed in the territory of Montenegro.
The request sought the collection of the necessary DNA samples from Rovshan Samedov, born in 1970, who is suspected of committing the crime, as well as from close relatives of Sirudin Sharifov, born in 2001, who is suspected of helping conceal the crime after it was committed. It also requested the collection of DNA samples from biological evidence taken at the crime scene and other objects relevant to the criminal case, along with the implementation of other procedural actions for comparative examination.
During the execution of the request, the Investigation Department obtained statements from the relevant persons, collected biological samples, conducted DNA examinations, and obtained DNA profiles.
The documents and forensic materials collected as a result of the execution of the legal assistance request were sent to the competent authorities of Montenegro in accordance with the procedures established under international legal cooperation.
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues its cooperation with the competent authorities of foreign countries, including EUROJUST and other international partners, in combating transnational crime, providing legal assistance in criminal cases, and strengthening international cooperation.
