Four men jailed over attempt to march with USSR flags in Azerbaijan

The trial of Abdulla Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, Elchin Bayramli, and Mehman Zeynalov, who were accused of distributing materials promoting communist ideology on social media and attempting to march with USSR flags, has concluded, APA reports.

The verdict was announced at the Nizami District Court.

Under the court's ruling, Ibrahim Asadli and Abdulla Ibrahimli were each sentenced to two years in prison, while Elchin Bayramli and Mehman Zeynalov were each sentenced to one year and six months' imprisonment.

Note that in November last year, videos circulated on social media showing a group of individuals attempting to hold a march with USSR flags while promoting communist ideology.

As a result of measures carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the organizers — Abdulla Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, Elchin Bayramli, and Mehman Zeynalov — were identified and detained. By court order, they were placed in pretrial detention for three months.

They were charged under Article 233 of the Criminal Code (organizing actions that cause a breach of public order or actively participating in such actions).
