Tajik President proposes building large oil refinery in Central Asia

"Let us seriously consider the possibility of building a large oil refinery in the region using modern technologies," Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said at the Informal Consultative Meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries, APA's correspondent dispatched to Kyrgyzstan reports.

"It is important to determine the main approaches to further advancing the current areas of regional development. Our common priorities primarily include the development of transport corridors and logistics infrastructure. Energy, industry, digitalization, and food security also remain in constant focus. The development of cultural and humanitarian ties is an important factor in strengthening friendship, mutual understanding, and trust among our peoples. The continuation of close cooperation and coordination in the field of security, particularly in combating existing and emerging threats, also remains relevant. At today's summit, we paid special attention to the implementation of concrete measures across all areas of cooperation and once again confirmed our readiness to actively participate in the practical implementation of these decisions. The tense situation currently observed in regional and global energy markets also directly affects our countries. Ensuring energy security is one of the key factors of sustainable development. I also raised this issue at our previous meetings. I propose that we all jointly seriously consider the possibility of building a large oil refinery in the region using modern technologies. To this end, I propose instructing our relevant institutions to thoroughly examine the possibilities of implementing such a project. Such an enterprise could primarily serve to meet the domestic demand of the countries of the region for petroleum products. I hope that the results of today's meeting will contribute to making our joint activities even more effective for the prosperity of our region and peoples," the Tajik president said.
