The Ministry of Justice continues effective cooperation with the competent authorities of foreign countries to secure the detention and extradition of individuals placed on the international wanted list and accused of criminal offenses, APA reports.
Azerbaijani citizen Hidayat Nemat Suleymanov, who was placed on the international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan and whose whereabouts were established in Montenegro, was extradited to Azerbaijan on July 29.
Suleymanov was charged in 2024 under Article 178.2.4 of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code with fraud involving the acquisition of another person's property through abuse of trust and deception for financial gain, causing significant damage to the victim by making false promises on multiple occasions. He was located and detained in Montenegro.
Following a request from the Prosecutor General's Office and subsequent negotiations, an agreement was reached on his extradition to Azerbaijan. The ministry noted that this once again confirms Azerbaijan's international standing and Montenegro's role as a reliable partner for the country.
Suleymanov was escorted from the Montenegrin city of Tivat to Azerbaijan by officials of the Ministry of Justice's Main Department for International Cooperation and the Penitentiary Service. In accordance with a court order, he was placed in a pretrial detention facility.
The Ministry of Justice said efforts in this area will continue.
