The United States and Israel are discussing the possibility of imposing a land blockade on Iran in an effort to increase economic pressure on the country.
According to The Telegraph, the plan is being considered after months of military operations failed to produce the desired outcome of bringing Iran back to the negotiating table.
The newspaper reported that the initiative envisions persuading Iran's neighboring countries — Iraq, Pakistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan — to restrict or close their border crossings with Iran. The aim is to significantly limit Iran's import and export capabilities.
According to the report, the idea of a land blockade is being discussed alongside other options, including maintaining the naval blockade, launching further strikes against Iran, or reaching a diplomatic agreement.
As The Telegraph noted, supporters of the initiative believe that further isolating Iran economically could increase pressure on the country's leadership. However, experts emphasize that implementing such a blockade would be extremely difficult due to Iran's extensive land borders and close ties with neighboring countries.
