Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Holy See Ilgar Mukhtarov met with Bishop of Acireale and President of the Sicilian Bishops' Conference Monsignor Antonino Raspanti, APA reports.
According to the ambassador's post on X, the meeting was held at the Acireale Episcopal Palace.
The meeting between Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov and Monsignor Antonino Raspanti took place in a warm atmosphere. The sides exchanged views on intercultural exchange, dialogue between peoples, the development of cooperation, and the promotion of the values of peace and coexistence. They also discussed the role that diplomacy and church institutions can play in strengthening dialogue and mutual respect.
As part of the visit, the ambassador also became acquainted with the history, artistic heritage, and spiritual values of the Church of Acireale. The tour of the basilica was led by Father Antonio Agostini, Director of the Diocesan Museum. Together with the parish priest Mario Fresta and Vice Parish Priest Rosario Pappalardo, he introduced the ambassador to the Chapel of Saint Venera, the sundial, and the works of artist Sciuti.
At the end of the visit, Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov expressed his appreciation for the hospitality extended to him, as well as for the historical, artistic, and spiritual heritage of the diocese. He also thanked Monsignor Antonino Raspanti for the warm reception and the productive institutional discussions.
