A decision has been made to extradite Alaga Mazahir Ismayilov to Azerbaijan based on an extradition request submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the competent authorities of Ukraine and documents provided in accordance with the requirements of international treaties, the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
This brings the number of extradition decisions adopted over the past year regarding persons located in Ukraine and handed over to Azerbaijan to seven.
Based on the evidence collected during the preliminary investigation conducted by the Investigation Department of the Surakhani District Police Office of Baku, reasonable suspicion was established that Alaga Ismayilov had committed fraud under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and he was charged as an accused person.
As he evaded the investigation, a pre-trial detention measure was imposed on him and he was placed on the international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol.
As a result of international operational search measures, his whereabouts were established in Ukraine, where he was detained.
The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice is currently taking the necessary measures in accordance with international procedures to transfer him to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General's Office stated that it will continue its consistent cooperation with foreign partner law enforcement agencies, including Interpol, in locating internationally wanted persons and extraditing them to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
