Today, at the OSCE PA Bureau meeting in Copenhagen, Azay Guliyev, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation and chairman of the organization's Economy and Ecology Committee, informed the members of the OSCE PA bureau about the establishment of a border checkpoint at the beginning of the Lachin road in Azerbaijan, as well as the reasons and consequences of such a decision, Azay Guliyev, a member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) told APA.
He noted that it is necessary to establish a checkpoint on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, on the Lachin road: "For the past 3 years, Armenia has systematically abused the Lachin road, grossly violating the clauses of the Trilateral Statement signed on November 10, 2020:
1) Armenia has carried out a rotation of the armed units it still illegally maintains in the Azerbaijani territory.
2) Armenia smuggled weapons and ammunition through the Lachin road.
3) Armenia brought terrorists and sabotage group members to Karabakh.
4) Armenia exploited and sold Azerbaijan's natural resources and cultural wealth on the international market.
5) Armenia abused the Lachin road to smuggle mines and explosives to Azerbaijan and kill Azerbaijanis. Since August 2022, 2,700 anti-personnel mines produced by Armenia have been planted on Azerbaijani territory. Mine explosions have killed 294 Azerbaijanis in the last two years."
Azay Guliyev brought to the attention of the bureau members that the construction of the border checkpoint will be extremely beneficial, and that it will address all existing problems. First of all:
1) Traffic transparency will be ensured on Lachin road.
2) Azerbaijan will ensure its national security, sovereignty and rule of law throughout its territory.
3) Azerbaijan will guarantee the safety of citizens and transport to both sides on the Lachin road in accordance with the Trilateral Statement.
4) In accordance with international law, illegal entry and exit to its territory, especially the above-mentioned abuses, will be prevented.
Azay Guliyev said with confidence that the establishment of a checkpoint on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, on the Lachin road, will fundamentally solve the existing problems.
The OSCE PA should take into account the mentioned positive dynamics and contribute to the signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Note that today, the Bureau discussed the activities of the OSCE PA, reports and draft resolutions of the organization's committees on Political issues and security, Economic issues, science, technology and environment, Democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues.
