Baku – APA. Chevron oil company says it has suspended production from an oil pipeline that was damaged in a recent attack in the Niger Delta region, APA reports quoting “The Voice of America”.

Chevron says that its Dibi-Abiteye pipeline in Delta state was breached on Friday.

The company said Monday it has suspended production using that pipeline to minimize environmental impact. Chevron says it is investigating the breach and reviewing its operations.

On Saturday, a militant group, the Niger Delta Liberation Force, said it had carried out three attacks on pipelines belonging to Chevron and an Italian oil firm.

Earlier this month, Nigeria’s military raided camps believed to belong to John Togo, the leader of the NDLF.

The Nigerian government is trying to clamp down on militancy in the Niger Delta, where frequent attacks and kidnappings have reduced oil production and revenue.

Many militants surrendered their weapons last year under a government amnesty program. However several groups continue attacks, saying they want a more equitable distribution of wealth in the region.
