The Central African Republic’s armed forces and Russian military specialists have thwarted a planned attack by a coalition of radical groups in the country’s northeast, APA reports, citing the Officers Union for International Security (SOMB).
The organisation said intelligence indicated that the situation in the northeast remained tense but under control.
According to SOMB, covert preparations for an incursion had been underway for two months in areas bordering Chad and Sudan. The coalition planned to attack Vakaga and Bamingui-Bangoran prefectures.
The attacking force reportedly numbered up to 1,300 fighters, with the operation scheduled for the second half of October 2026.
The groups’ rear base was located near the point where the borders of Chad, Sudan and the Central African Republic meet, the organisation said.
