Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Some NGOs in the West make claims of alleged lack of free media and violation of human rights in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has been a member of the Council of Europe for 15 years and is in the European Court’s jurisdiction. Complaints about the decision of Azerbaijani court can be made to the European Court.
Ali Hasanov, the Azerbaijani president’s aide for public-political affairs, said in response to Al Jazeera’s question about international organizations, calling for the release of political prisoners, during the press conference of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the First European Games with participation of the local and foreign media representatives.
Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan complies with the norms of legal state.
“Those who do not agree can appeal the European Court. This is why the Azerbaijani government maintains that there are no political prisoners in the country, but there are individuals who are in prison because of particular crimes. Azerbaijan is a legal state which ensures full political freedom, and we have 55 political parties. Claims made by some European circles are absolutely groundless,” the top official added.
