Alexander Zhukov: Baku is hosting first European Games at highest level

APA reports quoting olympic.ru. that he said Russia can organize these games in 4 cities: “Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Kazan are ready to host these games. Sports venue and facilities were built, all conditions were created for guests and participants. Therefore, we are thinking about holding the European Games in Russia in the future.”

Zhukov noted that the success of the first European Games, high level of competitions. “The Russian team’s ranking the 1st in the games attended by the strongest athletes of the continent is a spectacular result.”

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee said that Baku is hosting the first European Games at the highest level: “On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee, I congratulate the Azerbaijani colleagues on successfully holding the first European Games. All events were held at the highest level. For example, I would compare Baku arenas with sports facilities of London Olympics. Very nice sports facilities were built, it was a great atmosphere in arenas and volunteers worked very well. The arenas were fully occupied, spectators actively supported the athletes.”

Alexander Zhukov said it was a right decision to include non-olympic sports into the program of the European Games. “The fans get the opportunity of becoming more familiar with these sports and assessing the positive aspects. For example, Russia tries to include sambo competitions in the program of Olympic Games. I highly assess that sambo is part of Asian and European Games. In my opinion, the competitions were very interesting and made a good impression.”
