French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu acknowledged the grounds for high school student demonstrations, which have continued for a third week across the country, APA reports.
"Young people's anger didn't come out of nowhere," he said in a speech broadcast on the government's X page. "The government and political parties' job is to restore trust, and that must begin with dialogue. Young people have been given many different promises, but they haven't been fulfilled."
Lecornu announced that a new national education budget would be considered in parliament on November 12. "The government will act pragmatically," he promised, while also assuring that the authorities had not instructed law enforcement to engage in harsh measures against young citizens.
