Ilham Aliyev reelected president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee

Addressing the conference Ilham Aliyev underlined that he was satisfied with the achievements of 2008.
“Our sportsmen won seven medals in Beijing Summer Olympic Games, This is a good result, but the performance of the 2012 London Olympic Games should be much better. The problems of the kinds of sports, where no medals were won, should be analyzed, progress should be achieved in London,” he said.

Report covering 2004-2008 was made at the conference. It was noted that the National Olympic Committee had spent AZN 4.7 million of AZN 5.2 million budget within four years. New members of the Executive Board were elected. Head of Neftchi ISM will succeed Vasif Aliyev.

The President presented special orders of the National Olympic Committee to Azerbaijani Olympic champions – Rafiga Shabanova, Lyudmila Shubina, Nazim Huseynov, Namig Abdullayev, Zemfira Meftaheddinova, Farid Mansurov and Elnur Mammadli.

Ilham Aliyev, who has been heading the National Olympic Committee since 1997, has been reelected for another eight-year term.
