95 percent of Azerbaijani population supports hosting Olympic Games 2020 in Baku - <font color=red>SURVEY</font>

Spokeswoman for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Samaya Mammadova told APA that the survey conducted in December showed that 93 percent of respondents believe that the Olympic Games in Baku will promote the development of sport in Azerbaijan.

50 percent of respondents in Baku, Ganja and Sumgayit noted that in the event the Games are held in the capital city, they will buy tickets, while 30 percent expressed willingness to be volunteers for successfully organizing the Olympic Games in Baku.

Executive director of Baku-2020 Organizing Group Konul Nurullayeva said the surveyâ€™s outcomes coincided with their thoughts. â€œThe National Olympic Committee, various sport federations and large public community make great efforts to support hosting the Olympic Games in Bakuâ€.

Olympic Games 2020 in Baku will give an opportunity to Azerbaijan to realize its sport potential and promote the development of sport in the country, said Nurullayeva.

TNS Global Survey was conducted on December 26-30, 2011 among 1000 respondents in Baku (50%), Ganja (25.7%) and Sumgayit (24.3%).

IOC Executive Committee will announce official list of applicant cities in May this year. Baku contenders are Tokyo, Madrid, Istanbul, Rome and Doha. Voting is due in IOCâ€™s 125th meeting in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 7 September, 2013.
