Baku. Habil Suleymanzadeh – APA. The IOC gave prospective Olympic host cities from around the world tips on how to run a winning bid campaign at the start of a two-day seminar, APA reports referring to The Associated Press. Officials from more than 20 countries, including delegates from four potential U.S. bidders, met with the IOC and leaders of organizing committees from the next three Olympics in London, Sochi and Rio de Janeiro. International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said the importance of learning to manage a bid "cannot be understated." "The process of acquiring this knowledge must start long before a city eventually decides to bid for the right to host the games," Rogge told delegates in a closed-door session at the Olympic Museum. His remarks were released by the IOC. Among those attending were officials from the six cities bidding for the 2020 Summer Games - Baku, Azerbaijan; Doha, Qatar; Istanbul; Madrid; Rome; and Tokyo. They will stay in Lausanne for further IOC briefings starting Thursday. The U.S. was represented by Los Angeles, which hosted the 1932 and 1984 Olympics and is a possible future bidder for the Summer Games; potential 2022 Winter Games candidates Denver and Reno-Tahoe; and North Carolina, a prospective contender for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics for athletes aged 14-18. Stung by defeats for New York and Chicago in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic bid contests, the U.S. Olympic Committee has said it won’t bid again until it reaches a new revenue-sharing agreement with the IOC. Countries sending delegates included Argentina and Colombia, who are expected to bid for the 2018 Youth Olympics with Buenos Aires and Medellin, respectively.
