Baku-APA. International Olympic Committee officials say they are satisfied with Russia’s preparations for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.
But the IOC coordination commission that wrapped up a three-day visit to the Black Sea resort urged the Russians to speed up work on building the necessary hotels. Of the 43,000 hotel rooms needed for the Olympics, 19,000 still have to be built.
Other areas that need attention are workforce recruitment and training, and the coordination of Games operations.
The legendary French skier Jean-Claude Killy, the commission chairman, said the work done about halfway through the preparation phase reconfirms his conviction that “Sochi will host the 2014 Olympics at a very high level.”
Nearly all of the venues for Sochi are being built from scratch in one of the biggest construction projects in Europe.
This was the IOC commission’s fourth visit since Russia was awarded its first Winter Olympics in 2007. The next visit is planned for March.
