"Construction of the Zangezur corridor within Azerbaijan is expected to be completed next year," said Fariz Aliyev, head of the Transport Policy Department of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, during his speech at the Absheron Logistics Terminal at an event dedicated to the reception of the next block train sent from China's Zhejiang province, APA-Economics reports.
The ministry official stated that significant progress has been made toward the opening of the Zangezur Corridor. The corridor is set to become a key link in Azerbaijan’s transport system, facilitating increased transit flows along both the East-West and North-South routes. Construction within Azerbaijan is expected to be completed next year.
According to him, parallel projects are also underway in Türkiye: "The foundation of the 224-km section of the Kars-Dilucu line has been laid and will be fully completed in the next 4 years. With the commissioning of the Zangezur corridor, an additional 15 million tons of cargo will be achieved annually on the Middle Corridor."
The ministry official added that last year, 358 block trains were sent from China to Europe, which shows that Azerbaijan's transit capabilities are increasing and that the infrastructure reforms carried out in the country are yielding real results.
