Lachin is located at the intersection of strategic roads. Work is progressing rapidly on roads leading to the city from the airport, Kalbajar, and Shusha directions. The complex terrain of the area makes construction work difficult. For this reason, specialized equipment and experts are being involved, and projects are being developed in greater detail, Masim Mammadov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Lachin district, told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, the existing road between Lachin International Airport and the city center is currently 63 kilometers long:
"It takes approximately an hour and a half to travel along this road, which passes through mountainous terrain. The new road is planned to be constructed with 12 tunnels and 15 bridges. Once the road is commissioned, the distance is expected to be reduced to 8 kilometers.
In addition, work on developing urban transport in Lachin is nearing completion. The design of roads within the city has also been completed. The complex terrain of the area and the elevation differences of 300–400 meters between settlements require a special approach to road design.
As part of the first phase, nearly 70 kilometers of roads have been constructed in the city. In the second phase, starting from 2027, the road infrastructure is expected to be renewed and improved. New residential areas to be developed in the city will also be connected to the existing road network through new roads."
